FUNDRAISER

Sep 19 - Oct 21, 2021

Đùm Bọc means

to care for and

to protect with love

BigLeaf_1.png

Đùm Bọc is derived from a Vietnamese proverb, "LÁ LÀNH ĐÙM LÁ RÁCH", which is loosely translated into "HEALTHY LEAVES PROTECT TATTERED ONES".
It is a way to say that we should take care of the less fortunate.

Đùm Bọc, initially conceived as a fundraiser,
is a collective founded by
Duy VõThảo Bùi and powered by Vietnamese creatives and makers in the diaspora to provide support to communities in need.

WHY ARE WE FUNDRAISING FOR VIỆT NAM?

At the start of this pandemic, Việt Nam’s Covid-19 response was one of the most effective in the world. However, with the recent surge of the Delta variant along with the lack of vaccines paired with complacency in disease management, Việt Nam has been struggling to contain the spread.

Since late April 2021, the country's recorded on average

11,000 cases per day.

The total number of cases has grown past

670,000 nationally.

330,000 of which are clustered in Sài Gòn.

Lockdowns have been in place since July 2021, which have caused many to lose access to food, daily staples, and income. While the government is scrambling to contain the spread, folks find themselves in an increasingly dire situation.

Founded in 1992, the organization has been helping disadvantaged children to get an education and a better start in life. To support kids and their family during COVID 19, Saigon Children has been distributing their COVID Backpacks program. Each backpack includes food staples along with books, stories, and games to take care of the kids’ development and mental wellbeing during this devastating pandemic.

At the moment, Saigon Children focuses on providing food relief for working-class families. So far, they’ve fed 205 families in low-income districts. A donation of $30 helps a family of four to have food for two weeks.

Founded in 1999, Catalyst has been focusing on improving the lives of orphaned, abandoned, and homeless children in Việt Nam.

For this fundraiser, we will specifically support their COVID relief effort, which will send food to the community of Raglai ethnic minorities in Suối Đá - a hamlet between Cam Ranh and Phan Rang in southern Việt Nam. A donation of $17.50 helps a family of four to have food for two weeks.
